The most popular way to build a list of e-mail addresses is to use a squeeze page. The trouble with squeeze pages is that it is hard to get any search engine traffic to them as they are usually lacking in content which the search engines like.

The search engines like blogs as they are rich in content and they have RSS feeds. So what a lot of people do is put an opt-in form on their blog. The trouble is people become immune to these opt in forms and don’t really see them or take much notice of them.

A great way around this and to include an opt in form on your blog is to use a footer ad like the one at the bottom of this page.

This is called ultimate footer ads and really grabs the attention of your readers. So you get the best of both worlds, you get an opt in form on your blog which people notice, and you get the benefit of search engine traffic to your page which is hard if not impossible to do with a squeeze page.

I’m quite impressed with ultimate footer adds for getting opt ins at the moment. They have a free trial which you can use for 30 days. It’s not the easiest thing in the world to set up. It does require that you create a MySQL database and are able to change permissions on a few files using your FTP client. Nothing majorly difficult but it might be a bit intimidating to some newbies.

It has a lot of features such as being able to split test your ads, it has an ad rotator built in and works with Aweber and Getresponse autoresponders.
